《独立宣言》和美国独立日

　　1776 年 7 月 4 日，由托马斯·杰弗逊(Thomas Jefferson)起草，大陆会议发表了著名 的《独立宣言》(Declaration of Independence)。7 月 4 日为美国独立日。

　　美国内战/南北战争(the Civil War)主要事件

　　(1)林肯(Abraham Lincoln)于 1862 年颁布了《宅地法》，1863 年发表了《解放黑人 奴隶宣言》(The Emancipation Proclamation)，为最终废除奴隶制度预先铺了路。

　　(2)1863 年底，林肯发表的《葛底斯堡演说》(Gettysburg Address)成为美国历史上 最著名的演说之一，其中广为称颂的语段是“… and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth”。

　　美国最长河流

　　美国密西西比河(Mississippi)全长 6020 公里，是美国最长河流，居世界第四位，被 称作“father of waters”or“old man river”。
